Oversized cardigan in embroidered cable knit

A cardigan in thick cotton knit, raised cables, letter embroidery and mismatched coloured buttons.

A cardigan that gets noticed, and that is the point. The cotton-blend knit is thick and textured, worked in cables and diamonds that catch the light. On the front, letters embroidered in multicoloured threads, applied checked fabric panels and small contrasting crosses: a college spirit revisited, like a vintage find.

The cut

A very loose oversized cut, dropped shoulders and wide sleeves for a supple drape. The length stops just below the waist, which keeps the silhouette readable despite the volume. The V-neck in wide rib opens up the bust; the cuffs and hem in rib hold the knit without squeezing.

How to wear it

Open over a white T-shirt and straight jeans, it does all the work. Buttoned up, it is worn like a short jumper, with a long skirt or high-waisted wide trousers. Its thick knit also makes it a good third layer under a loose coat, from early autumn to cold days.

Three shades: ecru, red and pink. As the embroidery and appliqués are placed piece by piece, their positioning may vary very slightly from one item to another.

Fabric and care

Composition: Cotton blend, thick knit. Ribbing at the neck, cuffs and hem. Applied checked fabric panels, multicoloured thread embroidery. Five-button fastening.

Care: Hand wash or machine wash at 30 °C, wool programme, in a net bag and inside out to protect the embroidery. No tumble dryer: the thick knit loses its shape. Dry flat, reshaped, away from direct sunlight. Iron at low temperature on the reverse, avoiding the embroidered areas. No bleach.

Size

One size, designed oversized. It generally corresponds to a size S to XL, with a more pronounced volume on the smaller sizes. Total length between 50 and 65 cm depending on the measurement, that is a short cut stopping below the waist. If you are after an even more enveloping drape, layer it over a fine top rather than over a jumper.

Good to know

• One size — can that really suit everyone? The cut is frankly loose, with dropped shoulders: it absorbs differences in body shape. Count on a size S to XL. Beyond that, the cardigan will be worn open, with a volume closer to the body.
• Will the knit pill or lose its shape? This is a thick cotton-blend knit, more stable than a fine knit. Washed cold, in a net bag, and dried flat, it keeps its shape. The tumble dryer is to be avoided, as with any knit of this weight.
• Does the embroidery hold up in the wash? The appliqués are topstitched and the embroidery is fixed to the knit. Wash inside out, at 30 °C maximum, without a strong spin. Avoid ironing directly over the motifs.
