Floral-embroidered denim set, tie-waist jacket and long skirt

A two-piece in washed denim, embroidered with pink flowers, with a jacket tied at the waist and a long mermaid skirt.

A coordinated set that does all the work for you: a loose shirt-jacket tied at the waist and a long mermaid-cut skirt, in the same washed denim. The pink floral embroidery runs across the chest, the shoulder and the side panel, and is enough to take this denim out of the basic register.

The cut

The top is deliberately voluminous: dropped shoulders, long full sleeves, buttoned cuffs. The tie draws in the waist and creates a large bow at the front, which structures the silhouette despite the volume. The hem drops in an asymmetric point, which lengthens the bodice. Round neck closed by a small buttoned tab at the shoulder, in a western spirit.

The skirt follows a mermaid line: fitted over the hips, it flares gradually down to the ankle. The tonal topstitching and the graded wash give the fabric relief and the blue depth.

How to wear it

• As a total denim look, with ankle boots or fine-heeled sandals to free the ankle.
• The jacket on its own, open over a white vest top and straight jeans.
• The skirt on its own, with a ribbed jumper tucked in and a fine belt.
• A beige trench or a short blouson over the top as soon as the temperature drops.

When to wear it

It is a mid-season piece, spring and autumn. The denim stays supple and covering, without the stiffness of raw jeans. The set lends itself just as well to a lunch as to a countryside wedding or a day in town.

A statement piece: it gets noticed. If you prefer discretion, wear the two pieces separately.

Fabric and care

Composition: Woven denim, predominantly polyester, with a washed finish. According to the manufacturer's information, the content of the main fibre lies between 30% and 50%, the remainder being made up of blended fibres. This blend makes the fabric more supple and lighter than a heavy cotton denim, and limits loss of shape with wear. Floral embroidery applied on the top. Set unlined.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C, delicate cycle, inside out to protect the embroidery. Wash separately the first time: the wash finish may bleed slightly. No bleach. Air dry flat or on a hanger; drum drying is not advised. Iron at low temperature on the reverse, avoiding the embroidered areas. Dry cleaning is possible.

Size

Four sizes: S, M, L, XL. Indicative correspondences: S for a French 36/38, M for a 38/40, L for a 40/42, XL for a 42/44. The top is loose by construction and the waist tie takes up half a size: take your usual size. The skirt is fitted over the hips before it flares; if your hips are pronounced or if you hesitate between two sizes, choose the size up. The skirt falls to the ankle on a height of about 1.68 m; above 1.75 m, expect a high mid-calf length instead.

Good to know

• Polyester denim — does it look synthetic? The visual result is that of a classic denim: plain weave, graded wash, visible topstitching. The polyester blend simply makes the fabric lighter and more supple than a cotton denim, which is useful on a long skirt that has to fall without stiffening. We state it clearly rather than let you believe it is 100% cotton.
• A total denim look — isn't that too much? The two pieces are designed to be worn together, but they work separately. The tie jacket goes with black trousers or straight jeans, the skirt with a plain jumper or a white top. You buy a set, you get two independent pieces.
• Is the mermaid skirt comfortable to walk in? It is fitted over the hips then flares from the knee, which leaves ease for walking. The supple fabric follows the movement. For long days on your feet, a flat shoe is still possible: the hem then skims the ground, so plan for it when choosing your shoes.
