Denim set, frayed overshirt and wide-leg pants

A head-to-toe denim look in washed cotton: oversized overshirt with a frayed hem and wide-leg pants with a fluid drape.

A two-piece set cut from the same washed cotton denim. The overshirt is worn open or buttoned, with dropped shoulders and wide sleeves that leave ease. Its short length stops below the waist, on a hem left raw and frayed. The pants take the same cloth: high waist, very wide leg, a straight and supple drape.

The fabric

Cotton denim put through a water wash. The fabric is already softened: it does not feel like cardboard, it drapes. The wash shows gradations of tone, more pronounced on the blue, more sooty on the black. Those variations are part of the treatment and differ slightly from one piece to another.

How to wear it

The two pieces separate easily — the overshirt over raw denim jeans or a long dress, the pants with a fine knit tucked in at the waist. A mid-season piece, for autumn and spring.

Fabric and care

Composition: 100% cotton (denim). Water-wash finish.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out, with similar dark colors. Washed denim may bleed slightly in the first washes: wash it on its own the first time. No tumble dryer; dry flat or on a hanger in the shade. Iron at medium temperature on the reverse. Do not bleach. Avoid brushing the frayed hem — let it fray naturally, then even out the threads with scissors if needed.

Size

Offered in one size, designed for an oversized fit. It generally corresponds to a size S to XL depending on the ease you want. The supplier has not provided a measurement chart. The overshirt is very roomy at the shoulders and sleeves: beyond that the volume is still wearable but the sleeve length may feel short. The pants are high-waisted with a very wide leg; the length suits a height of about 1.65 m to 1.72 m, and gains from being hemmed or worn with a heel below that. If in doubt, measure a pair of wide pants you already wear and compare the waist and the inseam.

Good to know

• One size — can that really fit me? The set is designed from the start as an oversized volume; it is not a fitted garment shrunk down. The overshirt falls off the shoulder and the pants are very wide: the ease absorbs several builds, generally a size S to XL. The point to check is the length of the pants: measure flat a pair of wide pants you already wear and compare.
• Will the frayed hem come undone over time? It frays a little in the first washes, by a centimetre or two, then settles on the seam line that holds it. That is the expected behavior of a raw finish. Avoid the tumble dryer and brushing, and simply cut the longest threads if you prefer a clean edge.
• Will the denim bleed onto my other clothes? Like any piece-dyed washed denim, it may release a little color at first, especially in blue. Wash it on its own the first time, at 30 °C and inside out. After a few washes the phenomenon disappears and the shade sets.
