Wide washed jeans with a mid-rise waist

Loose jeans with a slightly curved leg, in non-stretch denim, with a lived-in wash and an elasticated back.

These jeans take up the wide silhouette of the moment, with a slightly curved leg known as sabre: pronounced volume on the thigh, falling straight to the ankle. The waist sits at mid-height, neither very high nor low, which makes choosing tops simpler.

The denim is a non-stretch woven cotton, of standard weight. It does not sag through the day and gives the trousers a structured drape, a little rigid on the first wear then more supple after a few washes.

How to wear them

Raw non-stretch denim gives very little. If you hesitate between two sizes, the size up stays comfortable thanks to the elasticated back. The colourway is a mid-blue wash, with natural variations from one item to another: that comes with the washing process.

Fabric and care

Composition: Woven cotton denim, no elastane. Standard weight, non-stretch, unlined. Waistband partly elasticated at the back. Metal button and fastening.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C, inside out, with similar dark colours. Do the first few washes separately: washed denim may bleed. No bleach. Moderate spin, air dry flat or on a hanger; avoid the tumble dryer to preserve the length. Iron on the reverse if necessary, medium temperature.

Size

Sizes 30 to 38, by waist measurement. Manufacturer's indications as a guide: 30 for 60-65 kg, 32 for 65-75 kg, 34 for 75-85 kg, 36 for 85-90 kg, 38 for 90-100 kg. As the denim is not stretch, measure your waist and compare it with a pair of jeans you already wear. Between two sizes, take the larger: the elasticated back makes up the ease. The length is designed to fall at the ankle on an average height (about 1.68 m); longer below that, shorter above 1.75 m.

Good to know

• Are non-stretch jeans comfortable day to day? Yes, provided you take the right size. The ease here comes from the wide cut, not from elastane. And the back of the waistband is elasticated, which avoids the pressure point at the waist when seated.
• Won't the very wide leg shorten the silhouette? The mid-rise waist and the curved line help: the volume starts below the hip and falls straight. With a fitted top, or one tucked into the waistband, the waist stays defined. A flat shoe with a slightly thick sole, or an ankle boot, avoids looking cut off.
• Will the wash fade in the laundry? The wash is done on the fabric; it does not disappear. The base shade may lighten slightly over the first few washes, as on any pair of jeans. Wash at 30 °C, inside out, separately to begin with, to limit that.
