Long high-waisted pleated skirt with a wool-like handle

A high-waisted pleated skirt, with a fluid, covering drape, worn just as well at the office as at the weekend.

This long skirt plays on two registers: a clean high waist, marked by a wide, smooth waistband, and a pleated bottom that flares in an A-line down to the ankle. The pleats start straight from the waistband, flat at the front, then release with the movement. The result: a structured silhouette at the top, fluid at the bottom.

The cut

A regular cut, midi to ankle length depending on your height. The high waist sits above the navel and lengthens the leg. The fastening is at the side, discreet, to keep a clean waistband at the front. The hem is simple, with no visible topstitching.

The fabric is opaque, with a handle close to a supple woollen cloth. It has enough hold to keep the pleats in place, and enough suppleness to avoid a rigid effect.

How to wear it

• With a fine jumper tucked into the waistband and derby shoes, for an office wardrobe.
• With a roll-neck and low-heeled ankle boots when the temperature drops.
• With an oversized sweatshirt and white trainers, for a more relaxed weekend.
• With a loose white shirt, sleeves rolled up, waistband visible.

The four colourways — black, off-white, coffee and grey — stay neutral and combine with what you already have.

Good to know

The supplier recommends this skirt from 1.61 m upwards. Below that, the length will fall at the low ankle, or even at the instep: something to plan for depending on the shoe height you want.

Fabric and care

Composition: Opaque fabric with a wool/faux-suede handle. The exact composition is not communicated by the manufacturer: we prefer not to invent it and will state it as soon as it is confirmed to us.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate programme, preferably in a net bag, with similar colours. No bleach. Dry flat or on a wide hanger, without a strong spin, to preserve the pleats. Iron at low temperature on the reverse, following the direction of the pleats. Dry cleaning is possible.

Size

Four sizes: S, M, L, XL, on a regular cut. The waistband is the deciding area: use your waist measurement as the reference rather than your hip measurement, as the bottom is flared. If you are between two sizes, or if you wear the skirt high on the waist, choose the size up. The length is designed for a height from 1.61 m; below that, expect a longer fall at the ankle, or a hem to take up.

Good to know

• Is the fabric see-through in daylight? No. The fabric is opaque and dense enough, including in the off-white. No underskirt is needed.
• Will the pleats fade in the wash? They hold well if you avoid a strong spin and the tumble dryer. Wash at 30 °C on a delicate programme, dry on a hanger: the pleats fall back into place by themselves as they dry.
• I am under 1.61 m — is it still possible? Yes, but the skirt will fall lower, at the low ankle or the instep. Wear it with a low-heeled ankle boot, or have the hem taken up: it is a simple hem, and the alteration is easy.
