Long hooded denim coat

A very roomy denim coat, below-calf length, fastened with frog buttons and with a drawcord-adjustable waist.

This denim coat plays the long volume card. It falls below the calf, flares into an A line from a gathered waist seam, and closes with a single row of frog buttons — those knotted closures of old inspiration. The shoulders drop naturally, the hood is lined in the same denim and the cuffs fold back into buttoned turn-backs.

The denim is of medium thickness, in a washed blue or a dark gray. It is not stiff like raw canvas: it drapes, it moves, it breaks a little at the folds over time. The two large patch pockets are made from a patchwork of contrasting denim tones, which gives each coat a slightly different drawing.

Why the cut works

The volume is frank, but it is held. The drawcord at the waist, finished with two pompoms, lets you tighten the seam and create a marked silhouette above a fabric skirt. Loosened, the coat returns to a straight, enveloping drape. At the back, a central seam and a low vent leave walking free despite the length.

How to wear it

• Over wide pants and boots, cord pulled tight, hood down: the cleanest version.
• Open over a long dress or a heavy knit, cord loose, for a more fluid drape.
• Alone in mid-season, in mild winter over a big sweater or a wool cardigan.

Worth knowing

This is one size, designed wide. It is worn oversized, with a volume closer to a classic coat on larger builds. The piece is not fleece-lined: count it as a mid-season or moderate-cold coat, to layer when the temperature drops.

Fabric and care

Composition: Cotton denim with a washed look, medium thickness, unlined (hood lined in the same denim). The detailed composition is given on the neck label sewn inside.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out and separately from light-colored pieces the first few times, as washed denim can bleed. No bleach. Air dry on a wide hanger, flat if possible, to preserve the shoulders and the drape. Tumble drying is to be avoided. Iron at medium temperature on the reverse; iron around the frog buttons rather than over them.

Size

One size, deliberately roomy cut: worn oversized. Total length over 100 cm, that is below the calf on a height of 1.65 m to 1.70 m. Dropped shoulders and wide armholes, designed to go over a thick sweater. If you prefer a less voluminous look, tighten the waist cord; if you want a real cocoon effect, leave it loose.

Good to know

• One size — can it fit me? The cut is roomy and the adjustment is made by the waist cord, not by the width of the bodice. It therefore generally corresponds to a size S to XL. On smaller frames the coat will be very long and very enveloping; on taller ones it will fall at the calf with a more measured volume.
• Will the denim keep me warm? It is a medium-weight denim, not fleece-lined: it cuts the wind and the chill, but it does not replace a down jacket. It works on its own in mid-season and over a heavy knit when the cold settles in.
• Is the pocket patchwork identical on every coat? No, and that is intended. The pieces of contrasting denim are assembled by hand on the patch pockets: the arrangement of tones varies slightly from one item to another. The structure and the placement of the pockets stay the same.
