Long belted double-breasted trench coat

A classic British trench coat, long below the knee, with a buckled belt to mark the waist or not.

A trench coat is a piece you keep for years, provided it is well drawn. This one takes the British codes: double-breasted fastening, wide lapel collar, storm flap on the front, cape at the back, buttoned epaulettes and cuffs with an adjustable tab. Nothing ornamental — these are the original details of the garment.

The cut

Roomy and straight, with raglan sleeves that free the shoulder and ease movement. The length exceeds 100 cm, that is a below-the-knee drape on most builds. The buckled belt runs through loops: tied, it marks the waist and creates drape; removed or simply left open, the trench falls straight like a long coat. A central vent at the back goes with your stride.

The fabric

A 100% polyester weave of medium thickness, plain, with a hand firm enough for the lapels and the collar to hold their shape. The inside is lined, which improves the glide over a knit and limits creasing. It is a mid-season piece: spring, early autumn, or mild winter over a thick sweater thanks to the volume of the cut.

How to wear it

• At the office: belt tied, straight-leg pants, derbies or square-heeled ankle boots.
• At the weekend: open over raw denim jeans, a ribbed sweater and white sneakers.
• In the evening: the black or dark gray version, belt pulled tight, over a midi dress.

The colors

Fabric and care

Composition: 100% polyester. Plain woven fabric, medium thickness. Inner lining. Matching belt included. Reference FY-101.

Care: Dry cleaning recommended to preserve the drape and the hold of the lapels. If you wash it at home: delicate cycle at 30 °C, reduced spin, no fabric softener. Dry flat or on a wide hanger, never in the tumble dryer. Gentle iron on the reverse, or a steamer held at a distance. Fasten the buttons and detach the belt before washing.

Size

Available from XS to XL. The cut is deliberately roomy: take your usual size for a fluid fit, including over a thick sweater. If you want a look closer to the body once the belt is tied, or if you are hesitating between two sizes, go down one. Raglan sleeves are not easily shortened: measure your arm length if you are under 1.60 m — the adjustable cuff tab makes up a few centimeters.

Good to know

• Polyester — isn't it too warm or too stiff? This is a medium-weight weave, not a synthetic knit. It gives the trench its hold: the collar stays open, the lapels do not collapse. As this is a mid-season piece worn over others, breathability matters less than for a garment against the skin. Polyester also resists creasing, useful on a long coat worn every day.
• Won't the roomy cut widen me? That is what the belt is for. Tied at the waist, it recreates a clean line and lets the bottom flare. Without it, the trench falls straight from the shoulder, which lengthens the silhouette rather than widening it. Both looks work; you choose according to the outfit.
• Can I wear it in deep winter? It is a mid-season piece: spring, autumn, and mild winter. The volume lets you wear it over a thick sweater or a wool cardigan, which extends its use. In hard cold or heavy rain, a heavier coat is a better choice.
