Belted cape jacket with a high collar

A short jacket with the look of a cape, in a thick fabric with a wool-cloth feel, drawn in at the waist by a tie belt.

A mid-season piece that stands on its own. The belted cape jacket plays on a full volume at the shoulders and a closer bust: the armholes drop very low, the sleeves flare out in a batwing shape, and the tie belt comes in to mark the waist. The result is a supple drape over the hips that never looks shapeless.

The fabric

A thick, plain fabric, with a felted handle close to wool cloth. It holds the volume of the sleeves and keeps its shape as you move, instead of falling flat. The high collar, closed by two buttons, sits high on the nape: enough to cut the wind on gray days without adding a scarf.

The cut

A short length, between 58 and 61 cm depending on the size, that is just below the waist. Diagonal wrap fastening with three visible buttons, which draws a discreet asymmetric line. A single vertical seam at the back, wide sleeves with no cuff, clean-cut edges with no visible topstitching.

How to wear it

• Over a fine sweater or a light knit turtleneck, so the sleeves keep their movement.
• With straight jeans and ankle boots, during the week.
• Over a leather skirt or fluid ecru pants, for a dressier silhouette.
• Belt tied to mark the waist, or left loose if you prefer the cape line.

The colorways

Five plain shades: camel, ecru, navy, dark brown and black. The buttons are tonal on each one, and the belt is cut from the same fabric as the jacket.

A word of advice: avoid very thick sweaters underneath — the low armholes are wide, but the sleeves stay close at the wrist.

Fabric and care

Composition: 100% polyester. Thick, plain fabric with a felted look recalling wool cloth. Lining not stated by the manufacturer.

Care: Hand wash or machine wash at 30 °C, delicate program, inside out. No bleach. Dry flat, in the shade, to preserve the drape of the sleeves. Iron at low temperature through a pressing cloth, or steam from a distance. Dry cleaning is possible. Tie the belt before washing so it does not tangle.

Flat measurements from the manufacturer, taken on the garment. S: bust 104 cm, length 58 cm. M: 108 cm, 59 cm. L: 114 cm, 60 cm. XL: 120 cm, 61 cm. The cut is deliberately full and the shoulders are dropped: take your usual size for the cape effect, or the size below if you want a line closer to the body. Between two sizes, the larger one makes it easier to wear over a sweater.

Good to know

• Is it warm enough for winter? It is a mid-season jacket. The fabric is thick and the high collar protects the nape, which makes it comfortable from autumn to the first cold days. In deep winter, wear it over a turtleneck or keep it for milder days.
• Won't the volume of the sleeves make me look wider? That is exactly what the belt is for: it draws the waist in and creates vertical folds that balance the fullness on top. Paired with a straight or fitted bottom, the silhouette stays clean.
• Polyester — does it look synthetic? The fabric is worked at the surface for a felted, matte finish, close to wool cloth. That is what gives it its hold. We say it plainly: the composition is 100% polyester, not wool.
