A white denim jacket worn as a statement piece rather than as a simple denim blouson. The cut stops above the hip, the bodice is shaped by vertical panel seams, and the front opens onto a mandarin bib with a double row of silver dome buttons linked by braids. The central zip does the actual fastening: the buttons stay decorative, and you have nothing to undo to put it on.

Why the cut works

The shoulders are clean and narrow, with no excess fabric. The long sleeves are fitted and finish on a cuff with a buttoned tab. At the back, princess seams hollow out the waist: the jacket follows the body instead of falling straight. The bodice carries corded panels that structure the bust, and the lower hem is cut clean and left frayed. It is that raw detail that stops the whole thing turning too demure.

Garment length: 50 cm in XS to 53 cm in L. In other words, an openly short cut, which uncovers the waist and visually lengthens the leg.

How to wear it

• Over high-waisted jeans or trousers: that is where it gives its best, the line cutting in the right place.
• With a cropped top or a fine vest top underneath, zip open, to let the bib show.
• Over a long fluid skirt, to set the structured denim against a moving bottom.
• Zipped up to the high collar, it stands on its own: no need for a scarf or an accessory.

The season

A mid-season denim: perfect in spring and autumn over a T-shirt, a little light in deep winter except as a second layer under a loose coat. White stays easy to combine, but calls for a minimum of vigilance in care.

Fabric and care

Composition: Cotton denim. The detailed composition is not communicated by our partner workshop: we prefer to tell you rather than put forward a figure. The fabric is a medium-weight denim, firm, with very little stretch.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C, inside out, with whites or light colours only. Close the zip before washing to protect the fabric. Avoid bleach, which yellows cotton over time. Air dry, flat or on a hanger, no tumble dryer. Gentle ironing if necessary, avoiding the metal buttons and the frayed hem. The fraying at the hem may loosen slightly over the first few washes: that is the intended result — trim the longest threads with scissors rather than pulling them.

Size

Flat measurements communicated by the workshop, tolerance of 1 to 2 cm depending on the measuring point. XS — shoulders 39 cm, bust 86 cm, sleeve 65 cm, length 50 cm. S — shoulders 40 cm, bust 90 cm, sleeve 66 cm, length 51 cm. M — shoulders 41 cm, bust 94 cm, sleeve 67 cm, length 52 cm. L — shoulders 42 cm, bust 98 cm, sleeve 68 cm, length 53 cm. The cut is fitted and the denim has almost no stretch. Compare your bust measurement with the values above: if you are on the border between two sizes, or if you want to wear a fine jumper underneath, take the size up.

Good to know

• A white jacket — doesn't it get dirty too easily? White denim marks mainly at the cuffs and along the hem. A 30 °C wash with whites is enough in most cases, and a gentle stain remover applied locally settles the occasional mark. Avoid bleach, though: it yellows cotton wash after wash.
• It is very short: will it suit me? The length runs from 50 cm in XS to 53 cm in L, measured from the top of the shoulder. It stops above the hip. It is a jacket designed to be worn over a high waist, jeans or a skirt. Over a low waist, the cut leaves a gap of skin you have to be happy with.
• Are the bib buttons functional? No, and that is intended. The fastening is done by the central zip. The double row of dome buttons and the braids that link them are there for the design of the front: you put the jacket on without handling fifteen buttons, while keeping the mandarin look.
