These jeans take up the barrel cut: wide hips, curved topstitched panel seams on the thighs, then a gradual taper towards the hem. The volume does not collapse — it is built by the cut. The high waist sits in the hollow of the waist and lengthens the leg.

The denim is a non-stretch cotton, of standard weight. It holds its shape from day one and gains a patina with wear. The cement grey wash is shaded, with whiskering at the folds and ochre highlights on the areas that rub. The tonal topstitching stays discreet.

How to wear them

The volume at the bottom calls for a close-fitting top: a ribbed vest, a fine T-shirt tucked in, a fitted shirt. With ballet flats or flat trainers in spring, with low-heeled ankle boots in mid-season to free the hem. The cement grey goes with white, black, khaki and the browns of the belt.

Fabric and care

Composition: Cotton denim, non-stretch weave, standard weight. The wash is applied as a finish, so each piece shows slight variations in shade. Belt supplied in faux leather. Unlined.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C, inside out, with dark colours. The first few washes may bleed slightly: wash the piece on its own to begin with. No tumble dryer, which shrinks non-stretch cotton. Dry flat or on a hanger, in the shade. Iron at medium temperature if needed. Remove the faux leather belt before washing and clean it with a damp cloth.

Size

Available in S, M, L, XL. The cut is loose over the hips and thighs, so the deciding measurement is the waist: S about 66-70 cm, M 71-75 cm, L 76-81 cm, XL 82-88 cm. The denim does not stretch: if you are between two sizes, or if you prefer the waist very high and comfortable, take the size up. The length is designed for a height of 1.65 m to 1.72 m; below that, a hem or a turn-up may be needed.

Good to know

• Is the barrel cut wearable if I am not very tall? Yes, as long as you keep the ankle clear. As the bottom tapers, the hem does not crumple onto the shoe. With the high waist and a tucked-in top, the line stays long. If the length is excessive, a simple hem is enough — the wash is not placed on the lower leg.
• Non-stretch denim — isn't that uncomfortable? On a loose cut, no: the comfort comes from the volume, not from elastane. The waist is high but the hips and thighs are wide, so nothing pulls when seated. The cotton softens after a few wears.
• Will the wash come out in the laundry? The wash is part of the fabric; it does not fade away. Like any indigo-dyed and washed denim, the piece may bleed a little in the first few washes and then acquire a natural patina at the folds. Wash at 30 °C, inside out, to limit the change.
