Oversized high-neck button cardigan

A chunky knit cardigan, cut wide, with a ribbed high collar and round buttons down the front.

This cardigan plays on volume. The knit is thick, matte, and holds its shape well: the whole thing hangs straight, without sagging, and stops at the top of the thigh (69 to 71 cm in length depending on the size).

The cut is frankly oversized. The shoulders are dropped, the armholes low, and the slightly balloon sleeves gather into a ribbed cuff. The result: room across the back and arms without looking shapeless, because the ribbed hem and cuffs give the garment its line back.

The details that matter

The ribbed high collar structures the upper chest and protects the neck when pulled up. The round buttons, in a natural gold tone, run the full length of the placket and lift a plain knit. The visible seams along the top of the sleeves and around the armholes give it that slightly hand-knitted look. No pockets: the line stays clean.

How to wear it

• Closed, like a jumper, over straight jeans or wide trousers, with boots.
• Open, as an outer layer over a t-shirt or a fine shirt, in mid-season.
• Over a long fluid dress, to break up a light fabric with volume.

About the fabric

The knit is 100% polyester. In practice: it is light for its volume (around 550 g), it does not itch, it dries quickly and it barely creases. It does not regulate warmth the way wool does, but it holds air well between the stitches and works very well as a mid-layer or over a warm top.

Fabric and care

Care: Hand wash or machine wash at 30 °C, delicate cycle, in a mesh bag to avoid snags. No tumble dryer: dry flat to preserve the volume and the length. Ironing is unnecessary on this knit; if needed, a very cool iron or steam from a distance. Do not bleach. A fabric shaver is enough to freshen the surface after a few wears.

Sizes S to L. Measurements taken flat, with a tolerance of 1 to 3 cm. S: length 69 cm, chest 126 cm, shoulders 68 cm, sleeve 45 cm. M: length 70 cm, chest 130 cm, shoulders 70 cm, sleeve 46 cm. L: length 71 cm, chest 136 cm, shoulders 72 cm, sleeve 47 cm. The piece is designed oversized: take your usual size for the intended drape. If you prefer a more contained volume, go down one size. The sleeves are short in absolute terms (45 to 47 cm) because they start from a very dropped shoulder: on most body types, they reach the wrist.

Good to know

• Polyester — will it keep me warm and stay comfortable? The knit is thick and tightly knitted: it traps air and cuts a cool wind well. It does not replace wool in deep winter, but it does not itch, does not shrink in the wash and dries quickly. It is a mid-season and winter-layering piece, to wear over a warmer top when it freezes.
• The oversized cut — won't it add width? The volume sits on the chest and sleeves, but the high collar draws the eye upward and the ribbing at the hem draws the line in at the high waist. Worn open over a straight or wide bottom, the effect stays vertical. If you want to limit the fullness, take one size down.
• Sleeves listed at 45-47 cm — that's very short, isn't it? The measurement starts at the top of the dropped shoulder, not at the joint. Since the shoulder line already sits down the arm, the sleeve reaches the wrist on most body types. The ribbed cuff also lets you push it up deliberately if you prefer to wear it three-quarter length.
