Wide washed jeans with studs

Light blue jeans with a rounded leg, mid-rise waist and discreet studs on the right thigh.

These jeans play on volume. The leg is very wide and slightly curved, what is called a barrel or scimitar cut: the side seams are shifted towards the front, which gives that rounded shaping at the thigh and knee. The drape falls low and covers the foot.

The waist is mid-rise, sitting on the top of the hips, with no compression at the waistband. The cotton denim is non-stretch: it does not lose shape through the day and keeps a clean hold, even on a volume this wide.

The fabric

Cotton denim of standard weight, neither light nor board-stiff. The finish is a water wash, hence that bright light blue and the pronounced wear effects on the front of the thighs. No lining: the jeans are worn as they are from mid-season to winter, with fine tights underneath in real cold.

How to wear them

The volume does all the work, so keep the top simple. A ribbed vest, a white T-shirt tucked into the waist, a fine close-fitting jumper. In winter, a short jacket or a leather blouson so the silhouette is not drowned under two wide volumes.

As for shoes, a slightly chunky pair works better: voluminous trainers, square-toed boots, cleated-sole loafers. As the leg is long, a heel or a pronounced sole stops the hem trailing.

The stud motif is small and concentrated on a single thigh: it is a detail noticed up close, not a showy piece.

Fabric and care

Composition: Cotton denim (cotton content of 70 to 80%, completed with reinforcing fibres). Non-stretch fabric, standard weight, unlined. Water-wash finish. Delivered with its original tags.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C, inside out, with similar colours. The first few washes may bleed slightly: wash on its own the first time. Avoid the tumble dryer, which shortens non-stretch denim. Dry flat or on a hanger, in the shade. Iron at medium temperature on the reverse if necessary. Do not use bleach on the wash finish.

Size

Sizes S, M, L, XL. The cut is loose by construction: take your usual jeans size, the volume is already in the pattern. The mid-rise waist sits on the top of the hips. As the denim is non-stretch, it does not give with wear: if you hesitate between two sizes at the waist, take the larger — wide jeans wear very well with a belt. The length is designed to cover the foot; under 1.65 m, plan on a hem or a thick-soled shoe.

Good to know

• Such a wide leg — does it make the silhouette wider? The volume is concentrated on the thigh and the knee, then the fabric falls straight. The mid-rise waist marks the waistband and a tucked-in top creates the contrast. It is the fitted-top / wide-bottom ratio that structures, not the other way round.
• Non-stretch denim — isn't that uncomfortable? On a loose cut, no: the ease comes from the pattern, not from elastane. You will not have the squeezed feeling of tight stretch jeans, and the fabric does not go baggy at the knees by the end of the day.
• Do the studs survive washing? They are metal studs set into the fabric, not glued. Wash inside out at 30 °C and avoid the tumble dryer: it is heat and the rubbing of the drum that damage this kind of finish.
