Wide-leg jeans with an elasticated waist and flap

Jeans with a very wide leg, a high waist elasticated at the back, set off by an asymmetric flap and a ring tie.

These jeans play on two registers: the loose look of workwear denim and the comfort of an elasticated waistband. The waist is high, fully elasticated at the back, and hidden at the front by an asymmetric flap panel. The result: the waistband does not squeeze, does not dig in, and the front keeps a clean line.

The cut

A very wide leg, falling straight from the upper thigh to the ankle. The denim is non-stretch: it holds its shape instead of clinging, and the trousers keep their volume through the day. The simple topstitched hem falls at the ankle on most figures.

How to wear them

With a cropped or tucked-in top, to mark the high waist and let the volume work on its own. White trainers and a T-shirt during the week, low-heeled ankle boots and an open shirt when the day runs long. A short blouson or a fine cardigan is enough to balance them in mid-season.

Fabric and care

Composition: Non-stretch woven denim, washed appearance. The exact composition has not been communicated by our supplying workshop: we prefer not to invent it. Firm, dry handle, typical of rigid denim.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C inside out, with dark colours for the first few washes. No bleach. Gentle spin to limit sharp creases. Air dry, flat or on a hanger; drum drying is not advised. Iron at medium temperature on the reverse if necessary. Washed finishes may bleed slightly on the first wash: wash the piece on its own that time.

Size

Sizes run from 30 to 40. Our supplier gives a correspondence by weight: 30 for 60–65 kg, 32 for 65–75 kg, 34 for 75–85 kg, 36 for 85–90 kg, 38 for 90–100 kg, 40 for 100–110 kg. That is an indication, not a rule: the waist measurement counts for more, and the elasticated waistband absorbs part of the difference. If you hesitate between two sizes, take the larger: the elastic at the back makes up the ease. On a small size, the length may need a hem.

Good to know

• An elasticated waist — doesn't that make them loungewear? The elastic is only at the back. At the front, the topstitched asymmetric flap and the ring tie give a structured waistband, as on classic trousers. It is the comfort of an elastic with the line of a pair of jeans.
• Such a wide leg — doesn't it shorten the silhouette? The waist is high and the drape falls straight from the hip, with no gradual flare. The leg still reads as long. Tuck the top in or choose a cropped one: that is what balances the volume.
• Non-stretch denim — isn't that uncomfortable? On a fitted cut, yes. Here the leg is very wide and the waistband elasticated: nothing pulls. The rigid denim serves mainly to hold the volume and to stop the trousers going baggy at the knees.
