Denim set, long hooded coat and wide trousers

A two-piece set in washed denim: a long coat with a lined hood and contrasting leopard braids, and the matching wide trousers.

This long denim coat comes down to the calf, a rare length for a denim piece. The cut is deliberately loose: dropped shoulders, a straight line that flares slightly towards the bottom. It fastens with a row of press studs down its full height and is worn open, like a long overshirt, as well as closed in cool weather.

The fabric

A washed polyester denim, more supple and lighter than traditional jeans. It falls straight without breaking and does not crease the first time you put it away. The wash comes in two intensities: a shaded charcoal black and a classic mid blue.

The coat's details

• Lined hood, which holds its shape even when not worn up.
• Two large patch pockets, deep enough for your hands, a phone, a set of keys.
• Printed leopard braids placed on the pockets, the hood and the hem.
• Double-thickness contrasting hem that weights the bottom of the coat.
• Cuffs with frayed turn-backs, to fold back or let fall over the hand.
• Horizontal panel seams, visible topstitching, a yoke and a central seam at the back.

The trousers

The trousers are cut in the same washed denim as the coat, in the same colourway. The leg is wide all the way down and gathers at the ankle, which lets the hem fall softly over the shoe. They are of course worn with the coat, but they stand on their own with a fine jumper or a tucked-in T-shirt.

How to wear it

As a complete set, with low trainers: the volume of the coat and that of the trousers answer each other — that is the intent of the piece. The coat on its own is worn over wide jeans and trainers, or over straight trousers and boots to lengthen the line. In mid-season, a simple T-shirt is enough underneath. In winter, it goes over a thick jumper or a hoodie without pulling at the shoulders. The black goes with everything; the blue works well with beige, grey and off-white.

Fabric and care

Composition: 100% polyester denim, coat and trousers. Contrasting printed leopard braids. Lined hood. Metal press-stud fastening.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate programme, inside out, with similar colours. No bleach. Air dry on a wide hanger; the tumble dryer is to be avoided. Gentle ironing at low temperature if necessary, avoiding the printed braids. The frayed cuffs are intentional: do not cut the threads, they settle after the first few washes.

Size

A very loose cut, one size in the oversized spirit: the coat is designed to float on the body, with dropped shoulders and a calf length. It generally corresponds to a size S to XL. The supplier has not provided a measurement chart. If you prefer a less voluminous drape, it is worn open and belted. On a height under 1.60 m, the length will come below the calf, which is still in keeping with the intended look. The trousers follow the same loose spirit; their gathered hem stops them trailing on the ground on a smaller size.

Good to know

• Are the trousers really included in the price? Yes. This page sells the two pieces together, which is what the colourways say — "ensemble noir" and "ensemble bleu". The coat on its own exists on another page of the shop, at a different price.
• Polyester — is it still pleasant to wear? It is not a rigid cotton denim, and that is intended. The polyester makes the coat lighter, more supple on the shoulders and more stable in the wash. As this is an outer piece worn over other clothes, the question of direct contact with the skin barely arises.
• The leopard pattern — isn't it too loud? It is confined to narrow braids on the pockets, the hood and the hem. It underlines the coat's lines rather than covering it. From a distance, what you see is mainly a long plain denim coat.
• Is it warm enough for winter? It is a mid-season piece. The denim cuts the wind and the length protects the legs, but there is no quilted lining. In deep winter, the loose cut lets you slip a thick jumper or a hoodie underneath without being tight.
