Long sleeveless patchwork denim coat

A long sleeveless hooded jacket, in washed denim assembled from contrasting patchwork, to wear open.

This long sleeveless jacket is worn as a third piece: open over a sweater, a sweatshirt or a long-sleeved shirt. The cut is very roomy, the armholes wide, and the length falls below the knee (between 80 and 100 cm according to the supplier's measurement). The drape stays fluid despite the volume.

The work on the denim

The fabric imitates washed denim, with deliberate worn effects. The bodice is assembled as patchwork: a light denim panel, polka-dot fabric, stripes, a darker panel. The lower border echoes the polka-dot pattern with a burgundy piping. At the back, a horizontal seam breaks the length and the rounded hem falls slightly lower.

How to wear it

The simplest way: a close-fitting long-sleeved top underneath, straight-leg jeans or wide pants, sneakers or flat boots. The volume of the jacket calls for a fairly clean silhouette below. Closed on the two or three middle buttons, it takes on the look of a pinafore dress. Open, it lengthens the silhouette.

Fabric and care

Composition: 100% polyester, woven and dyed in a washed denim manner. Patchwork panels also in polyester (polka dots, stripes, dark panel). No padding, no quilted lining.

Care: Machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out to protect the washes and the panels. No bleach. Gentle spin. Air dry on a wide hanger, hood free. Iron gently if needed, on the reverse, avoiding the burgundy piping and the polka-dot border.

Size

One size, deliberately oversized cut. It generally corresponds to a size S to XL: on a smaller size the volume is very pronounced, on a larger one it stays roomy but closer to the body. Total length between 80 and 100 cm according to the supplier's sheet, that is below the knee on a frame of 1.65 m. Wide armholes: plan a long-sleeved top underneath, not a very thick sweater.

Good to know

• It is polyester — does it really look like denim? It is a polyester woven and washed to imitate denim. Visually it comes close, with the worn effects and the grain. The difference shows in the hand: the fabric is lighter and more supple than cotton jeans, and it dries fast. We would rather say so clearly than talk about raw denim.
• One size on a piece this long — can it suit everyone? No, and that should not be promised. The oversized volume and the full button fastening absorb a good part of the differences in build, in practice a size S to XL. The length, however, does not adjust: above 1.75 m it will fall above the knee, below 1.60 m it will come low on the calf.
• Does it keep you warm? It is a mid-season piece, with no padding or warm lining. It cuts a light wind and adds a layer, nothing more. Count on it over a sweater or a sweatshirt in spring and autumn, not as a coat in deep winter.
